Am I Group 3?

Answer a few questions to see whether your entity is likely to need a sustainability report from 1 July 2027, when your first Group 3 year starts, and whether the short s296B statement could be available. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

1. About the entity
Must the entity prepare an annual financial report under Chapter 2M of the Corporations Act?
Only entities that must prepare a Chapter 2M financial report can be required to prepare a sustainability report (s292A(1)(a); RG 280.48). A proprietary company that meets the size test below is treated as "Yes" (large proprietary company, s45A(3)).
Is the entity a disclosing entity, RSE or registered scheme?
Affects the lodgement deadline: 3 months after year end for these entities, 4 months for others (s319(3); RG 280.7).
2. Size (consolidated, at the end of the financial year)

Use figures for the entity plus the entities it controls (AASB 10). The test is applied at the end of the year (RG 280.34), so use forecasts for your first Group 3 year now and re-check at year end.

Count part-time employees as a fraction of full-time (s292A(4)).
3. Emissions (NGER) and funds
Is the entity a registered corporation under the NGER Act at year end?
Is it required to apply for NGER registration for the year?
Most mid-sized businesses are not NGER-registered. Confirm with the Clean Energy Regulator if unsure.
